Team DSM’s Nils Eekhoff’s setup for Paris-Roubaix
We caught up with Nils Eekhoff for a day, the Team DSM Dutch rider, following his traces as he went out for a training ride in Deventer, home of the Team DSM HQs, on his Foil RC. We took the occasion to take a look at the one-of-a-kind Syncros setup that the team rides for the legendary Paris-Roubaix race on their Foil RC.
First up is the Duncan SL Aero Comfort seat post, which utilizes the very best aerodynamics to deliver top level performance when out on the road. Featuring a split to absorb vibrations whilst riding, and a design that optimizes aerodynamics, this seatpost brings to life the perfect balance between strength and stiffness, while retaining comfort when riding on varied or rougher surfaces like Paris-Roubaix cobbles. The Duncan SL Aero Comfort is the weapon of choice of Team DSM for the upcoming event, due to the prevalence of cobbled terrain, which leads them to temporarily put aside their beloved Duncan SL Aero seat post, slightly more rigid and sensitive to vibrations.
Let’s take a look to the saddle, shall we? Ladies and gentlemen, presenting the Belcarra V 1.0 Cut Out model. Designed with aerodynamics and lightweight in mind, the Belcarra adds much to a high-performance, race-ready setup – except additional weight, obviously. In fact, thanks to very light carbon rails, a carbon fiber-einforced shell, an additional very light PU Foam layer and the deep cut out design, releasing pressure from the saddle to reduce discomfort, this really is the best fit for racers of the caliber of Team DSM.
Steering the one and only SCOTT Foil RC, bike of choice of the Team for the renowned race in the North of France, is the Creston iC SL Aero Cockpit. This jewel was created with the same purpose as many other elements present on the two-wheeled rocket; to help athletes riding it, feel the ultimate precision, control and speed whilst riding. Full carbon construction, full cable integration and a one-of-a-kind aerodynamic shape make of this cockpit the perfect example of Syncros’ expertise and excellence in high-end product engineering.
In occasion of such important events, athletes prepare in many different ways, depending on their preferences and habits. Nils took the opportunity to show us a special trick he’s been using to prepare at the best for the Paris-Roubaix. Riding for many kilometers, as all passionate riders know, can lead to the creation of blisters, especially when riding on cobbled roads. To avoid excessive blistering on the hands, Nils rides with a double layer of the Syncros Superlight bartape on his Creston iC SL Aero Cockpit, which helps him maintain comfort.
Follow Nils and Team DSM’s journey of preparation towards one of the most awaited events of the year!
